Patsy McCaffery, recently upgraded to A3, won the combined A3/A4 race at the Grand Prix of Rooskey, Co. Roscommon last Saturday. Not long now, surely, before he is upgraded to A2.
Dave Allen, Michael Noonan, Nigel Allen and Brendan Ennis completed the inaugural Carrick Wheelers Bobby Power Challenge Sportive last Sunday, a 160km spin around the mountains of South Tipperary and Waterford. It was billed as the toughest sportive in Ireland and did not disappoint.
Bobby Newport took a tumble off the bike after hitting some gravel while taking part in a 600km audax last Saturday. Some road rash and swelling to his hip but thankfully his injuries are not too bad and we should see him back on the bike soon.
The popular and well run Slaney CC A4/Novice/Undearage ended last Wednesday with a non-point-scoring race, won by Slaney CC’s Peter Thatcher, and the focus is now on the South East Road Club which commences Wednesday, 8th June. Sign on at 6.30pm at Toss Byrne’s on the old N11 with racing commencing at 7. Club racing is where riders learn to race and all members are encouraged to take part and join the fun.
Wexford Wheelers meet up for spins on Sunday mornings at 9.30 in the Bullring, Wexford. There are usually three groups so all levels are catered for. All that is needed is roadworthy bike and a helmet. All are welcome along.
