The sixth running of the Wexford Wheelers Christmas Hamper Race, sponsored by Celtic Ferries will take place on Sunday, 12th December. It will again be based in Wexford Youths’ grounds at Ferrycarrig Park. It is expected that some of the biggest names in Irish cycling, past and present, will be taking part and further details will issue shortly.
While we could be considered to be in the cycling off-season, the club is delighted with the numbers taking part in the club’s Sunday tours. New members are always welcome and there are usually three groups; underage/novice, touring and race training. All you need is a roadworthy bike and a helmet. There is a level to suit everyone and no-one will be left behind. We are particularly happy to see, and want to encourage, an increase in female participation.
We meet at the Bullring, Wexford at 9.30 on Sunday mornings.
Cycling is a great, healthy exercise and a great way to get to know County Wexford and beyond.
Interest in mountain biking is on the increase and some Wheelers meet up at the Regal Lodge on Saturdays at 10am from where they enjoy the wonderful network of forest roads and tracks on Forth Mountain. The pace is leisurely, as fast as the slowest rider. Be prepared to get a bit dirty!
The annual Christmas trip to Dublin for underage Wheelers is scheduled for Tuesday, 28th December. It is planned to go ice skating in the morning and Funderland in the afternoon. Any underage cyclists wanting to go on the trip should contact Billy Roche as soon as possible as we will need to book in advance.
