In the absence of racing in the south east this weekend the racing group headed up the R741 towards Gorey for a three hour training spin while other club members were attracted by the challenge of the Sean Kelly Tour of Waterford which is a challenging 160k route beginning in Dungarvan and taking in Carrick on Suir, Clonmel before turning into the Comeragh Mountains with a hard climb to the Mahon Falls before returning to the start point in Dungarvan. The event now attracts nearly 4,000 cyclists. This year has seen a huge increase in overseas entry particularly from our near neighbours in the UK but also from a number of European countries as well as the US and Canada. This huge increase in the popularity of the Tour is due to the hard work and dedication of the Sean Kelly Tour Committee which consists of representatives of Waterford County Council, Waterford Sports Partnership, County Waterford Community Forum, nine local cycling clubs and of course the one and only Sean Kelly.
