Bobby was among twenty one cyclists who left the Stephen Roche Monument in Dundrum at 4.10am last Saturday morning.
All of the riders stayed together until the climb at Glenmalure with twelve then staying together until Bunclody. Bobby and two others then rode together to Carrick on Suir where they had lunch at 12.30 (pm, I assume!).
They left Carrick on Suir at approximately 1.15 heading for Blackwater via Thomastown. Bobby lost contact with his companions at around the 200km mark as his legs ‘wouldn’t work’. He struggled on and ‘found’ his legs again after about 250km enabling him to regroup with the others in Graiguenamanagh.
They arrived in Blackwater at 6pm for a sandwich and headed for Rathdrum at 6.20. They got to Rathdrum at 9.30pm where the bikes were set up for night riding.
The final leg was from Rathdrum, via Enniskerry, back to Dundrum where they arrived at 11.45pm.
Bobby is grateful to George for the advice on chamois cream (I wonder what that was!?).
Another one down for Bobby in his quest for qualification for next year’s Paris Brest Paris 1200km. Well done to him from everyone in Wexford Wheelers.
